We are very pleased and honoured to welcome the Montessori Australia Council into the growing international community of the International Montessori Council.
Both organizations exist to provide a common ground where Montessori educators, parents, schools, teacher education centres, and educational suppliers can work together for the common good regardless of affiliation or teacher certification.
The IMC is a grassroots Montessori organization, established in 1998 by the Montessori Foundation.
Our work is focused on four areas:
*To encourage and support strong national, state/provincial, and local Montessori councils that are inclusive, supportive, and effective in their support and promotion of Montessori schools and the principles of Montessori as a social philosophy of child honouring, peace education, and parenting in partnership.
*To provide, in partnership with its affiliated Councils, a wide-range of programmes, services and resources to support the development of highly effective and stable Montessori schools and teacher education programs.
*To promote wide-spread public understanding of standards of excellence and best practice in Montessori education and to recognize and accredit authentic Montessori schools and teacher education programmes around the world.
*To provide, in partnership with its affiliated Councils, in-service programs of professional development for both classroom Montessori educators and Montessori school administrators. This includes publications, conferences, workshops, and online professional development and resources.
The Montessori Australia Council, originally established as the Montessori Association of Australia, has a long legacy of working toward similar goals. After many years of loose association, we welcome you and your fellow members and member schools and organizations into the International Montessori Council.
In our tradition, every voice is important and every voice may be heard. We try to follow and extend Montessori classroom practice into our professional lives. Our meetings follow the Montessori way. We encourage schools to establish similar guidelines in working together as teachers, administrators, parents, children and boards or owners.
