For early childhood professionals there is a growing concern that observation as a means of understanding children is being threatened. How we gather information and document, plan, assess and evaluate is being destabilised as we move towards greater accountability in education. This article will discuss how early childhood teachers observe and document, the external influences which are causing concern and the subsequent imposed changes to practice.
